Bo Billy - Bo-Breaking on Music Row
August 30, 2004 -- Independent country artist Bo Billy earns praise from one of Nashville's leading critics for his new Boots Road single "Borderline Crazy", from Wild For You, produced by Spencer Critchley and Bo Billy.
"...Well produced, right down to the mariachi horns, Spanish guitars and Mexican rhythms. In addition, it is so well written that I'm surprised a major-label act hasn't snapped it up!" Robert Oermann, Music Row 8/20/04
Writing in his weekly DISClaimer feature, Music Row magazine's Robert Oermann has spotlighted Bo Billy's new single "Borderline Crazy". Oermann, one of country music's most influential critics, is famous for calling ‘em the way he sees 'em, good or bad, so we're thrilled with the thumbs up!
"Borderline Crazy" is the first single from Bo Billy's new Boots Road album, Wild For You. Written by Jeremy Stover, Kris Bergsnes and Greg Barnhill, "Borderline Crazy" is a perfect uptempo antidote for the approaching fall and winter. In the song, Bo Billy has the "blue collar blues" , but dreams of senoritas and margaritas waiting for him in Mexico.
Early response from radio looks unusually strong. Adds are coming in fast, including many on Music Row reporting stations, with program directors actually calling Boots Road's radio promoters to let them know how much they like the track. (Understandably, PD's usually wait for the inevitable calls to come to them!) Latest adds include KZKS Grand Junction, CO and the 78 stations of Trans American Broadcasting Corp.
There's also been great response to two preview singles included on recent CD samplers: The beautiful "For The Life Of Me" and the country gospel rouser "Blink" were on 140 stations at last count! Bo Billy wrote "For The Life Of Me" himself. It's a soaring country ballad, and like so much of Wild For You, it shows the diversity of Bo Billy's influences, featuring a soulful sax solo by Nashville studio ace Jim Hoke.
"Blink" was originally written by Spencer Critchley and Marco D'Ambrosio for the Emmy-winning documentary film of the same name about a former racist leader who tried to leave his old life behind after discovering love and compassion.
