Jefferson County Fire Fighters to Fill Boots for MDA

MONTICELLO, FL July 21, 2004 -- In observance of the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the partnership between the International Association of Fire Fighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, twenty four members of the Jefferson County Fire Rescue will conduct the annual Fill-the-Boot drive on Friday, July 30th to benefit MDA.

Proceeds raised during the street side campaign will help support MDA services and research programs for people with more than 40 neuromuscular diseases at area MDA clinics. Last year, the fire fighters raised over $1600 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Fire fighters will be at the county courthouse, asking motorists to drop donations their boots. Fill the Boot campaigns are among the primary ways in which fire fighters across the country have raised nearly $200 million nationwide for MDA's fight against neuromuscular diseases since 1954.

"Fire fighters are so inspirational. In 1954 they promised to continue their efforts until a cure is found, and 50 years later, that is exactly what they are doing," MDA Regional Director Susan King Poole adds. "We can't say ‘thank you' enough".
